Interview with Russell Speer, Army veteran (Quartermaster Corps), concerning his experiences in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. His education and youth in South Texas; enlistment in the Army, September, 1942; assignment to the Courts-Martial Section, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, 1942-44; Officer Candidate School, Fort Lee, Virginia, 1944; Quartermaster School, Fort Lee, 1944; assignment to Chabua, India, 1945, as a rations breakdown officer; his job as a warehouse officer in charge of moving supplies to airstrips for transportation to the front, 1945; problems with wild elephants raiding warehouses; relations with Indian laborers; end of the war and the disposal of supplies; his return to the States, January, 1946; his postwar career in the Army Reserve.

Fort Arbuckle was built in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma on April 19, 1851 and was formally designated a fort in June 1851. It was established by the U.S. Army to protect the region's relocated Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes from raids by Kiowa and Comanche Indians. William John Alexadner was born of Scottish parents in Hamilton, Canada West, in 1855. He was educated in Hamilton and at the University of Toronto where he won a scholarship which enabled him to study English at the University of Wales College in Charlottetown for two years.
